National holidays and Chilean identity. What makes Chileans Chileans?

I personally believe that what makes us Chileans wake up just in these eves. We feel a deep need to eat empanadas and the favourite salad is tomato with onions. Also we like to hear cueca, even when in the rest of the year we never use to hear it. We feel way more Chileans than ever. But this just shows that we do not have a strong identity as a Chilean during the whole year. We are always looking what the rest of the world is doing and always we are introducing new foreign things.

We can talk about a lot of foreign topics, but some examples are the musical trends. Some years ago the Axé was very popular here. It brings sounds and rhythms that were way so distant of our culture. Today is the Reggaeton. As well, the paid TV has quite a lot of influence over people. Especially new generations, which are the first responsible of continue with the tradition of our country. Sometimes it feels like all the world is mixing up and we are losing our personals beliefs and rituals that make us particular.

But with all our imperfections and with our particular Chilean mind, we love to be Chilean. And we feel so proud every time Chile wins a gold medal in Olympics games. And in national holidays is allow to drunk and eat more than ever. Because Chile deserve it! Let’s enjoy in the name of the Nation!
